Finally got this little video together from our overnight stay @igludorf #zermattswitzerland

I will admit to being a little hesitant when MrA first told me he'd booked an Igloo night for a birthday treat, but
it really was a great experience.
❄️
So the key is to keep the core temperature up and with a couple of dips in the Jacuzzi and a couple of hours by the fireplace in the cabin, all was well.
❄️
And yes the sleeping bags were super warm so we were all good.
❄️
Hot tea was brought to our bedside first thing in the morning.. after quick tooth brushing, no washing obviously, we set off for a big buffet breakfast at a hotel a walk away.. then home for a shower!

Such love and enthusiasm was felt on this special day after two hard years.

I'm a relative newbie to Zermatt and community is not always easy to spot in a tourist town but it was very evident here yesterday.
☘️🇮🇪
I've never before seen a band perform for 6 hours straight and keep getting better and better as they performed each song
☘️🇮🇪
Guest singers, virgin singers, streakers just kept coming as the bemused unknowing skiers stopped and gazed in amazement at the sheer joy emanating from the restaurant terrace below
☘️🇮🇪
All under the watchful eye of the beautiful Matterhorn mountain.
☘️🇮🇪
As our host pointed out several times "just look around at this place it's so beautiful"

He was right..beautiful setting, beautiful people, being kind, loving, having fun and being our best selves

Humans at their best!

So here I am living in Zermatt for now, my 60th birthday on the very near horizon.

I’ve been living out here since the beginning of the year and my friend @judibone9367 just visited to celebrate my upcoming birthday and has given me the most gorgeous and thoughtful gift of a specially created necklace, just for me, by the fabulously creative Helen @perlacocodesigns because she knows how much I love her work.

It’s been a difficult start to the year for my family, having lost two people very close to us in quick succession.
🎁
When we lose people we love we recognise our own mortality and vow to live life to the full and appreciate it more every day.. which is of course what we all must do, life is precious.
🎁
It has occurred to me more than ever now though after two very sad farewells, that we must also take the time to tell our family and friends what we love about them and how much we appreciate them whilst they are still with us and not wait until they leave.
🎁
I’m so happy to have reached my 60th year, not everyone is so lucky and I’m grateful and blessed to have so many people I love so much in my life

As we trundle through France en Route to our next travel destination I’m catching up with the final Couple of VLOGS from California

Our final two weeks took us first to Vegas via Route 66

My Dad was able to join us and realise a dream trip along Route 66

Vegas was the crazy ‘Sin City’ Id imagined. It reminded me of the wicked ‘Pleasure Island’ depicted in the movie Pinocchio, which for some reason no one I’ve mentioned it to seems to remember that bit of the film 🤷‍♀️

Just 45 mins outside of Vegas The Hoover Dam was something completely different

The diversity of this state continues to amaze me

So this was a few weeks back now, we’re leaving LA today heading back home to Blighty.

I’ve struggled to keep on top of filming and editing but I’m determined to get all the vlogs edited and posted, even after I’ve returned, hopefully it will be a nice diversion from the Christmas instafest!

Posting about this trip was never about “showing off” or creating envy, that’s just not how I roll, it’s been about sharing and recording my joy with friends & fam

I’ve dreamed of visiting California for a long time, it’s been a trip of a lifetime and it didn’t disappoint.

So after a fab wine tasting weekend in Mendocino north of San Francisco, we returned to San Fran, for a wet but wonderful whistle-stop tour of the city.
🇺🇸
San Francisco must surely be one of the most distinctive cities in the world. With it’s characteristic steep streets, eclectic architecture, the iconic cable car, which is the worlds last remaining manually operated system, the magnificent engineering feat which is the Golden Gate Bridge and of course the erie island of Alcatraz which sits in the middle of San Fran bay.

Even in the rain this is an impressive and intriguing city.
🇺🇸
The audio tour of Alcatraz prison, which finally closed in 1963 the year after I was born, will always be a haunting memory. We heard recordings of some of the inmates, who spoke of their time at there. One recounted how on New Years Eve they would enjoy listening to the music and partying which drifted across from the country club on the mainland … freedom, as we have recently all been reminded during the pandemic, is something we often take for granted but should be cherished.

VLOG 10 will chart our continuing journey on Highway 1 the north–south state highway that runs along most of the Pacific coastline of the U.S. state of California. At a total of just over 656 miles, it is the longest state route in California, and the second-longest in the US…
