HIGHBURY APARTMENT
THE BRIEF
A 1st floor 40 sqm apartment in a Victorian Terrace conversion on a tree lined street in Highbury, North London. The owner was a young professional male. Aesthetically he asked for a moody vibe with a classy edge. Practically he required having seating and dining area for two people, occasionally four, and the addition of a fridge and a dishwasher to the kitchen. He also wanted a wet room shower with a spa like feel.
THE PROJECT
This project was a full refurbishment, which included complete redecoration, new flooring, a bathroom and kitchen redesign and fit.The bathroom was redesigned and fitted to wet room specification with a bespoke glass panel dividing the WC from the shower area and a wall hung sink with under cupboard storage. Lighting was key in this area to achieve the spa like feel the client required. Flexible lighting from full lighting for cleaning, low lights, wall washes and niche lighting combined with natural grey stone created a relaxing space.
The client loved the idea of marble but the budget wasn’t quite large enough to accommodate this with all the other work needed so I specified a beautiful marble effect Formica that contrasts wonderfully with a stylish Copper sink and tap. The kitchen bar was bespoke and housed the extra kitchen equipment required and created a dining area with bar stools for two, occasional four. Two fold up stools, which are hung away when not in use to create more general space when not needed. To keep the costs within budget we reused the existing carcasses from the original kitchen and added new sleek black laminate replacements.Moody shades of grey were used throughout contrasting with the sleek black kitchen, marble tops and copper. Walnut wood, leather, suede, natural hides and sheepskins add warmth and texture.
